The third annual E3 showcase of the most innovative and intriguing VR games. Year after year, as the medium matures, it continues to be a platform for developers to innovate. While not all the games shown were brand new releases, we selected five of our favorites from the showcase that you can expect to play soon.
Song in the Smoke is a VR survival game developed by 17-Bit, best known for cartoony indie games like Skulls of the Shogun and Galak-Z. It was first announced for PSVR earlier this year. Jake Kazdal, the studio's CEO, explains how virtual reality inspired him to create more than just a game, but a fully living world in a new developer diary. This summer, it will be available on Oculus Rift and Quest, as well as PSVR.
There are a lot of great rhythm games in VR, but Unplugged has the coolest hook. It's an air guitar game, which means you'll be playing with just your hands thanks to hand-tracking technology on Quest and other supported PC VR. Even better, the new trailer reveals you will play The Offspring's "The Kids Aren't Alright." This fall, it will be released.
Who remembers Nerf battles? Although the reveal trailer doesn't reveal much, it looks stylish, the Nerf guns look outstanding, and it's from Emmy-winning VR studio Secret Location. It will be available only on Oculus in 2022.
You must save your favorite sushi bar from going out of business in this stylish cel-shaded game. However, instead of serving sushi, your goal is to persuade others to visit, so there's a lot more of a narrative focus, which is enhanced by some vibrant manga-style comic book panels. It will arrive in 2022.
A Township Tale, which will be available on Oculus Quest on July 15th, is an open world VR RPG that brilliantly acknowledges the fact that you and everyone else lack legs. In an immersive fantasy world, you'll be able to forge a new identity as a blacksmith, minter, woodcutter, warrior, or archer.
